Management of Patients’ Attitude Toward Orthodontic Mechanotherapy
Aim: various types of mechanotherapy are used in modern orthodontics facilitating different aspects of treatment demands. The aim of this epidemiological study was to discover the nature of concerns that Iraqi patients have toward orthodontic therapy.
Material and methods: Clinical examination followed by questionnaire administration. Interaction between mechanotherapy and patient’s reaction is discussed, including management of patient’s attitude toward different orthodontic treatment mechanics.
Result: patients when properly motivated and educated become excellent candidates for orthodontic treatment and have great appreciation of the results. Aesthetic reasons and social status are the main motivating factors for seeking orthodontic therapy; however ,the high cost of treatment will enforce the patient to continue treatment, whilst on the other hand it acts as a barier against getting full treatment .the principles of orthodontic therapy are still vague in the Iraqi community even for a considerable number of general practitioner dentists.
Conclusion: some of the obtained facts reveal the role of patients’ attitudes in obtaining a successful treatment outcome.
