Evaluation of Cooperation between Orthodontist and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Treatment Outcome of Skeletal Class III Patients
Introduction: Successful treatment of orthognathic patients depend on various factors. One of the major problems that influence treatment outcome is teamwork cooperation between orthodontist and oral and maxillofacial surgeons. This cooperation is prerequisite for ideal results. The aim of this presentation is to describe step by step treatment sequences in sever skeletal class III patients need ortognathic surgery beside orthodontic approach.
Material and methods: Treatment sequences of 15 skeletal class III treated by orthognathic surgery were selected. Orthodontic treatment was done by author in all patients. Surgical phase was done by different surgeons that include one or two jaw surgery. Step by step sequences will be explained focusing on treatment complication and team work management in all cases.
Results: The outcomes of treatment in 13 cases were satisfied as regard of achieving ideal occlusion and in two other cases, the final results represented some degrees of failure .
Conclusion: In order to achieve pleasant treatment outcome teamwork cooperation should be established between orthodontist and surgeon in treatment of patients need orthognathic surgery beside orthodontic treatment.
