A Comparison Study on the Effect of Acetaminophen and Chinese Herbal Medicine on Tooth Movement in Rats
To compare the effects that acetaminophen and Chinese herbal medicine have on orthodontics teeth movement and to examine the differences of bone resorption in the pressure area and the expression of COX-2 around the root of the teeth.
Forty-five adult male Wistar rats were divided into three groups of fifty-five each:Acetaminophen group,Chinese herbal medicine group and control group. The appliances were placed between molars and incisors. Histological examinations were performed on all above samples.
Analysis of variance showed no significant differences between the control group and groups given acetaminophen and Chinese herbal medicine.The groups given Acetaminophen and Chinese herbal medicine have no statistically significant differences, too.
The results indicate that and Chinese herbal medicine just like acetaminophen did not affect orthodontic tooth movement in rats, and it might be the analgesic of choice for treating pain associated with orthodontic treatment.
