World Federation of Orthodontists

World Federation of Orthodontists

The purpose of the World Federation of Orthodontists is to advance the art and science of orthodontics throughout the world. As stated in the World Federation of Orthodontists Bylaws, the World Federation of Orthodontists' purpose will be accomplished by fulfilling the following objectives:

  • Encourage high standards in orthodontics throughout the world;
  • Encourage and assist in the formation of national associations and societies of orthodontists when requested;
  • Encourage and assist in the formation of national and regional certifying boards in the field of orthodontics when requested;
  • Promote orthodontic research;
  • Disseminate scientific information;
  • Promote desirable standards of training and certification for orthodontists;
  • Organize the International Orthodontic Congress to be held at least once every five years.

The World Federation of Orthodontists was formed at the 4th International Orthodontic Congress (IOC) in San Francisco by 69 organizations from 62 countries on May 15, 1995. The World Federation of Orthodontists now consists of 106 organizations from 106 countries and over 6800 orthodontists who have become World Federation of Orthodontists fellows. World Federation of Orthodontists fellows receive the WFO Gazette two times per year and other benefits of membership which include: international orthodontic specialty recognition, reduced attendance fees at orthodontic meetings throughout the world, a reduced subscription rate for the World Journal of Orthodontics, and inclusion in the electronic WFO International Orthodontic Directory.

The WFO comprises 106 organizations from 106 countries, and some 6800 orthodontists are now WFO fellows. It holds its International Orthodontic Congresses once every five years, and has pleasure in inviting its members to this momentous event in Sydney, 2010.

Australian Society of Orthodontists

Australian Society of Orthodontists

The Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO) is the professional association for orthodontists in Australia. ASO orthodontists must complete a five-year Bachelor degree in Dentistry and a further three-year full-time Masters degree or a doctor of clinical Dentistry degree in Orthodontics, which represents more than 4000 hours of specialist post-graduate education.

The ASO is the professional association for orthodontists in Australia. We have over 400 members, and it is our privilege to be chosen by the WFO to help host this Congress. Our members extend to our fellow orthodontists and their staff and family across the world the warmest of "Aussie" greetings and invite you to join us in Sydney.

Asian Pacific Orthodontic Conference

Asian Pacific Orthodontic Conference

The first Asian and Pacific Orthodontic Conference (APOC) was held in 1991, and the Asian and Pacific Orthodontic Society (APOS) was formalised in 2001. The current members are the Societies and Associations from Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hongkong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. The APOC’s are hosted by a member country, and it is with great pleasure that the 7th APOC joins the WFO and ASO at the 7th IOC in Sydney. There could be no better occasion on which to fulfil the aims to disseminate scientific and artistic information relating to orthodontics, and it is an honour to be a part of the world orthodontic community at the IOC. The 7th APOC showcases speakers from many of the APOS member countries and we welcome delegates from anywhere in the world to join us on Monday 8th to ‘Look Ahead’ at the many new and innovative developments that are in store for orthodontics.
